Michael Riley Design reflects a passion for strong design clarity and bold yet playable synthetic greens. Intrigued from an early age by the role of topography and layout, Mike Riley draws from his experience working with Nicklaus Design and Robert Cupp. Recognizing the importance of 35 years of hands-on design experience, Southwest Greens formalized a relationship to integrate natural course attributes with cutting-edge synthetic turf surfaces.

Graduating with a degree in Horticulture from Clemson University and time playing professional golf, Mike was offered an outstanding opportunity to work for Jack Nicklaus’ design company. As both a site coordinator and a design associate, he was privileged to be work on Nicklaus golf courses in Tucson, California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Japan. He literally learned exceptional golf course design and construction from the ground up with a golf legend. One of the courses he worked on, the Kiele at Kauai Lagoons in Hawaii, won Best New Resort Course by Golf Digest magazine in 1989.
